Infertility is a massive topic, and one that unfortunately hits close to home. It's been on my list of topics to write about, but keeps getting bumped to the bottom. Even as I lay here trying to write, I keep finding myself hesitating, closing my eyes and thinking about something else. I have several reasons for this hesitation:
I worry it is not my place, as someone who has not yet tried to conceive, and therefore has not experienced the heartbreak of infertility.
I worry about triggering those close to me who have recently gone through this.
It's too big a topic to tackle in my simple blog.
I'm not an expert (I've spent more time researching/experiencing my diseases than infertility specifically).
Infertility has worried me for over a decade, so thinking about it sucks.
But, it is infertility awareness week, so I will bite the bullet. I love this era we live in, in which social media platforms are constantly raising awareness for one cause or another. It helps us focus our collective consciousness on issues that have gone under the radar for decades. How many people do you think have never given more than a moment's thought about infertility? Yet it affects so many, and can be deeply traumatizing.
Since I'm clearly struggling to get words out, I will keep this post brief and do a series of sub-topics for future writing:
general info/stats (+ a beautiful addition by my sister)
personal stories (and more stories sent to me by readers!!)
I hope to get these all done during infertility awareness week, but I've used a lot of spoons this week, so we'll see. In the meantime, I would love to hear from anyone reading this who has a story that they would like to share. Again, since I have not yet had to deal with this, I don't want mine to be the only voice.
Thanks, and stay tuned!
