Day 14: Fanore

Our final day before heading home was a perfect "soft" day in Ireland -- slightly chilly, cloudy, and misting. We slept in a good ten hours, ate some oats for breakfast and relaxed. We went to Vasco, a cute cafe in town. It was quite expensive, but very good local organic food. All of the greens and herbs were either grown in their garden or foraged in the Burren! I got a delicious pesto pasta and Dan got another chowder. Our server was great. He'd spent some time in Vermont and even knew someone Dan's met through work! He kept making jokes about the water, like "What'll ye have to drink? We've got bottled or Flint, Michigan" and "Here's yer water! An' look -- nothin's swimming in it!"

After lunch we headed back to watch the World Cup match. Or, in my case, to nap through the match. We then walked back to O'Donoghue's Pub for dinner (the same meals as last night) and music. We finished our trip with a sunset walk down to the beach, complete with dunes, winkles (enormous snails), and cows wandering free.

By the end of our trip, we were exhausted, worn out, and ready to go home, but just barely :-) We both felt that the trip was the perfect length, and we were amazed by how well I'd held up, all things considered.

And most importantly, I was able to share my love of Ireland and convince Dan that we should go back as soon as possible!

Goodbye, for now, Éireann!
